The Be Ready checklist asks for a battery or wind-up FM radio. This slim pocket radio does both jobs well: run it on two AA batteries, or switch to its built-in rechargeable battery and top it up by USB. A one-click torch on the side helps you find your way when the lights go out. Small enough for a coat pocket, drawer or grab bag.

Questions about this product

Will it work in a long power cut?

Yes – it does not need mains power. Charge it in advance by USB, then top it up by winding the crank or leaving the solar panel in daylight. The Be Ready campaign advises writing down the FM frequencies of your local and national stations and keeping them with your kit.
