If the tap water is cut off or you are told not to drink it, bottled water comes first, and the Be Ready advice is to store about 3 litres per person per day. This compact filter is a useful backup for your grab bag: drink through it directly or connect it to a bottle. Always follow local water advice and the instructions supplied, and boil water when told to.
